Sports varsity Bill likely this LS session

IMPHAL, Jul 15: Chief Secretary O Nabakishore has stated that maximum efforts are being invested to the commence the first academic session of National Sports University at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex from next year.

Speaking to media persons at DIPR complex, Moirangkhom today, Chief Secretary O Nabakishore said that he along with the Sports Commissioner and the Sports Secretary went to Delhi and showed photographs of infrastructure available at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.

Pointing out that development of necessary infrastructure at Yaithibi Loukon, Thoubal district would take some years, the State officials proposed commencement of the National Sports University’s academic session by recruiting necessary manpower and by using existing infrastructure at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex from next year as a temporary arrangement, conveyed the Chief Secretary.

However, a Bill which is essential for establishment of the National Sports University is yet to be passed by the Parliament. Nonetheless, the Bill may be tabled in the forthcoming session of the Parliament, Nabakishore said.

Even as the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports asked for 200 acres for the university, the State Government handed over 336 acres to the Ministry. However, a litigation pertaining to 34 acres is pending at Court. Once the litigation is settled, the said area would also be handed over to the Ministry, Nabakishore added.
