State kick-starts Diarrhoea Fortnight

IMG_8987-copy-1-735x400IMPHAL, Jul 12 : In an attempt to curb instances of diarrhoea among children below the age of five years, State Health Society, Manipur, on Tuesday, launched the Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight programme at the conference hall of JNIMS Hospital.
Health and Family Welfare Minister D Korungthang, Health Services and Mission Director Dr O Ibomcha, Family Welfare Services Director Dr K Rajo and JNIMS Hospital Director Professor Deben Laishram attended the launch event.
Speaking at the occasion, Health and Family Welfare Minister D Korungthang said the instances of diarrhoea among children below the age of five is very common. As such the launch of an intensified programme to control diarrhoea is a commendabnle step.
The Minister further urged all the concerned to utilise the funds sanctioned for the health sector wisely.
JNIMS Hospital Director Professor Deben Laishram said diarrhoea mortality among children in India was relatively high in the past. With the advancement in the health sector and introduction of new diagnosis methods however, the diarrhoea mortality rate among children has declined. Mere observation of Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight programme will not be to enough to curb diarrhoea, Professor Deben said adding that awareness programmes should be organised in all the corners of the State to increase awareness about diarrhoea. The Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight programme will be observed for 13 days, Health Services Director Dr O Ibomcha said.
