23 translators honoured with Sahitya Akademi Prize

Nepali, Odia, Punjabi, Rajasthani, Sanskrit, Santhali,  Sindhi, Tamil, Telegu and Urdu were honoured with the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize 2016 at the Maharaja Chandrakirti Auditorium here today.
Sahitya Akademi president Vishwanath Prassad Tiwari and eminent Gujarati writer and Sahitya Akademi, Fellow Raghuveer Chaudhari attended the solemn function as president and chief guest respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Raghuveer Chaudhari said that the contributions of translation works in a society may not be seen soon after such a work is released.
Nonetheless, a society would definitely reap the benefits of all translation works  though it may come years later. All good literary works should be translated into native languages as far as possible,  Raghuveer said. Vishwanath Prassad Tiwari  remarked that the ever growing pace of globalization has heightened the importance of  translation works all the more.
An exhibition cum sale of books published by the Sahitya Akademi was also opened at the Maharaja Chandrakirti Auditorium. It is reported that the exhibition cum sale will continue  till August 6.
