A Hyundai Santro car was damaged by suspected bandh supporters at Khurai Sajor Leikai area.
All inter-district passenger services remained off the road though a few number of private vehicles related with emergency services and religious activities were seen.
Business establishments, shops, oil pumps and cinema halls in and around Imphal city remained shut. Khwairamband Bazar, the heart of the capital wore a deserted look with few passers-by.
Schools and colleges, offices and movie theatres also remained closed although a few office goers were seen. Supporters of the bandh blocked roads in different parts of Singjamei area.
To prevent any untoward incident, a large number of police personnel was seen deployed in and around Imphal area.
The JAC constituted against the declaration of wanted tag on JCILPS former convener Kh Ratan, called the 48 hours bandh across the State after the State security personnel arrested the former convener from Keishampat Leimajam Leikai on August 17 while participating in a peaceful relay hunger strike sit-in-protest.
However, the general strike has been shortened to 24 hours citing the Manipur Language Day.
Following a war of words between bandh supporters of Khurai Sajor Leikai and a doctor who was returning home after dropping a patient at the locality, a Hyundai Santro car with registration no MN-06 4113 was vandalized by the infuriated locals.
Till the time of filing this report, there was no information of any untoward incidents in other parts of the State.
