DCs of 7 new dists not to be given poll duties till Jan 2

IMPHAL, Dec 11: The District Commissioners of the newly formed seven districts will remain as they are (not given responsibilities of Electoral Officer) till January 2 due to the ongoing special summary revision for the coming State Legislative Assembly polls, according to a top official of the State Election Department.

The official clarified that due to the special summary revision, the DCs of the newly formed districts would not be given the power of Electoral Officer. Election Commission and the Chief Electoral Officer will decide on the matter after wrapping up the summary revision and a final electoral roll is issued.

Director General of Election Commission in charge of Manipur, Sudeep Jain, will arrive at Imphal for a three day visit on December 19. According to a source, there were high chances of the Election Commission announcing the date of the election as soon as the winter Parliamentary session ends on December 16.

Most of the preparations for the coming election have been completed and 500 companies of the Central Paramilitary Force have been promised by the Centre, ready to be deployed at a moment’s notice, it added.
