Gaidon and Stephen remanded in police custody for 7 more days

net_unc_president_gaidon_kamei_speaking_to_media_personImphal, Dec 14: Police today remanded UNC president Gaidon Kamei and Publicity Secy. Sangkhel Stephen for 7 days in police custody for the second time. The two were arrested by a team of Manipur police from Pheidingga on November 25 on charge of disrupting traffic at National Highways of the state. Both were produced on December 8 to the court but were re-arrested by Tadubi Police Station in connection with a case registered against them and remanded in police custody for 14 days.

Advocate S Inaobi and Advocate Achamliu Golmei appeared on behalf of them. After being produced to the court the police seek more time for investigation to the court. As per the submission by the police some volunteers or supporters of the UNC which has been enforcing the economic blockade along the national Highways had torch a loaded truck bearing registration number MN-01-9194 near Tadubi at around 6.25 am of November 21. The truck was transporting 600 bags of chicken feeds from Jalpaiguri, Silguri. The truck was set ablaze by 5/5 persons suspected to be supporters / activist of UNC and as they were involved in with full conspiracy of the organization, both Gaidon Kamei and Stephen were highly required in Police custody for further investigation.

Following the plea, the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East granted 7 days remand of both the accused in police custody. The Court directed them to produce before the court on 20/12/2016.
