Ram-MadhavManipur BJP on Sunday assured that it would investigate all the cases of corruption and irregularities in utilisation of funds provided by the Centre if the party comes to power in the state after the Assembly elections in March.

“If the BJP comes to power, we will investigate all allegations against Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and his ministers and those found guilty of siphoning off funds will be put behind bars,” said BJP general secretary and Northeast coordinator Ram Madhav.

Madhav further mentioned Manipur CM O Ibobi Singh as ‘phumdi chor’. Accompanied by Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Madhav arrived Imphal on Sunday to oversee the party’s preparation for the Assembly elections slated to be held on March 4 and March 8.

The two BJP leaders reviewed the party’s poll strategy at a hotel with senior leaders of the state. “Ibobi Singh and his ministers have pocketed major portions of the funds provided by the Centre for development programmes for Manipur,” Madhav claimed, adding, “The people of Manipur should remove the corrupt Congress government.”

He further stated that BJP will not spare any minister who swindled public money. Stating that the state government should take the initiative to stamp out corruption, he mentioned, “Since the Congress government has failed to do so, people should hand over the reins of power to the BJP so that all cases of corruption could be probed and the guilty punished.”

Madhav also alleged that the Congress government has not been able to complete several projects on time. “It took three decades to complete a project and the Centre had to provide additional funds to complete those projects.”

Meanwhile, reacting strongly to an allegation made by Ibobi Singh that the BJP joined hands with the NSCN (I-M), Madhav noted the ongoing economic blockade is the handiwork of Ibobi Singh and the NSCN (I-M).
