Sudden demise of Haji Abdul Salam

IMPHAL, 28th February 2017: Today report came in about the sudden demise of Haji Abdul Salam. He was born on 1st March 1948 and is a politician. He is a Member of Parliament, representing Manipur State in the Rajya Sabha (the upper house of India’s Parliament) for the second term of 2014-2020.

Notably, Abdul Salam is the 16th Rajya Sabha MP of Manipur, succeeding Rishang Keishing. Abdul Salam, now 68 years 11 months 27 days old, hailed from Heibong Makhong village located within Wabagai Assembly Constituency, Thoubal district. He is presently staying at Hatta Golapati. He belongs to the Indian National Congress political party.

Abdul Salam was elected to the State Assembly thrice and held different ministerial posts. He was once not only AICC member but also held the post of MPCC vice-president.

Abdul Salam’s home constituency is one of the seven Assembly segments of Thoubal district whose residents can cast votes but cannot contest the election for Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency. Abdul Salam is the first Muslim MP from Manipur.

He hold certificate of M.A. (Pol. Sc.), LL.B from Gauhati University. He is the son of (Late) Hafix Mufizuddin and Heiton Bibi, and he gets married on 8th Feb, 1971 with Najida Begum. He has one son and five daughters.
