HC fixes Mar 23 for next hearing

IMPHAL, Mar 3: The High Court of Manipur has fixed March 23 as the next date for further hearing of a PIL case filed against the ongoing economic blockade imposed by the United Naga Council (UNC) on National Highways.
The hearing date was fixed by a full bench of the Court comprising of Chief Justice Rakesh Ranjan Prasad, Justice N Kotiswar and Justice Kh Nobin.
UNC president Gaidon Kamei and information secretary Shangkhel Stephen who are currently lodged in Central Jail Imphal were produced before the Court for hearing of the PIL case number 13 of 2010 and 46 of 2015.
Advocate N Jitendra represented as the counsel of Gaidon Kamei who is the respondent number 14 of the case as per the directive given by the Court on Febraury 27 to arrange a counsel for further hearing .
The counsel prayed before the Court to give him sufficient time to look after the case record and prepare his submission. Accepting the prayer, the Court fixed March 23 for further hearing of the case.
The Court also directed the State Government to continue open sell of petroleum products. It also directed Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution (CAF & PD) to display stock position .
Daily allocation of petroleum products to the oil stations should be displayed at the respective stations, the Court ruled.
Advocate General I Ibohal Singh submitted a report the Defined Contribution Market Intelligence (DCMI) data showing the price of non essential items in Imphal city and other towns of the State before the Court. The Court directed the counsel to submit relevant document, information about the non-availability/irregular supply of life saving drugs, essential commodities and other consumable items in Imphal city and other towns of the State on the next date of the hearing. It may be mentioned that hearing of the PIL case in the Court was adjourned for three times due to the failure of the UNC leaders’ counsel to appear before the Court.
