Even more motivating point of the festival was the youth entertainment programs of fanfare, drum rolls, cheer leaders, rock concert, freestyle stunts but strictly maintaining “zero toxic” inside the venue.
Every visitors including program performers and rock bands were strictly monitored by volunteered security to make sure on intoxicants were brought and use inside the venue.
Gomi Sharma, president of the Cyclist group told Imphal Free Press “we want to prove that youths can enjoy in absence of abusive substances and intoxicants during festival.”
Since the last two years the Cyclist group formed by 60 members of young tight group friends have been organising the bicycle riding festival with the motto to celebrate Holi festival as an alternative of enjoyment with reckless driving, riding motorcycles under the influence of abused substances, exhibition of immoral behaviour by youths.
This year’s mass cycle ride flagged off by Deputy Inspector General of Police (range-I), IK Muivah, IPS and Dr Ph Ibomcha Sharma, Principal, DM College of Commerce from Palace Compound nearby All India Radio gate.
The ride culminated at the ground of DM College, Commerce after snaking through road ways through Kongba, Singjamei, Keishamthong, Kwakeithel, Keishampat, RIMS road, Assembly, Dinku road, Lamlong, Menuthong, North AOC.
Number of enthusiastic participants has been improved from around 100 riders in first ride in 2015 to over 520 riders this year, said Gomi adding that a group of very enthusiastic veteran women group were also participated in the bicycling festival.
Majority of participants were male youths while young boys were also came out to participate along with their mothers, he acclaimed.
There were also cyclists from Ukhrul, Bishnupur and other different parts of the state who were come down to Imphal especially for the ride festival.
“Manipur is a very small state to use bicycle in day today use of transportation and everyone is well aware of the benefit of using bicycle whether be in health aspect, environment, economically and others,” Gomi encouraged fellow youths to raise the common voice to save society so as to save the environment and so as to save our planet.
