DAMMS Observed Khongjom War

The Delhi Association of Manipur Muslim Students (DAMMS), yesterday 25th April, 2017) organized a function commemorating the Anglo- Manipur War-1891 at the Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research, Jamia Milia Islamia, New-Delhi.

Chaired by Md. Mujibur Rahman, President DAMMS and Prof. Amarjit Singh, Center for North-East Studies and Policy Research, JMI, a symposium was held on the topic, “Role of Pangals Anglo-Manipur War-1891” where many students from across the universities in Delhi participated. This was followed by a series of talks on different topics by eminent research scholars and academicians.

Prof. Amarjit Singh, JMI; Dr. Malem Ningthouja, eminent Historian and Human Rights Activist; Pusham Azad Babu, Research Scholar, Center for the Study of Social Systems, JNU and Miss Ruqaiya Khullakpam, Phd Scholar, Center for Law and Governance, JNU talked on different topics related to Anglo Manipuri war and related areas.

This was followed by a discussion and interactive session where different questions were asked to the speakers and discussed. Issues discussed were of repressed history, of a seemingly monolithic kind of historiography and knowledge production existing in Manipur and on the need for a different outlook towards inter-community relations and symbiotic associations, taking cue from history.

The panel also expressed the need to put up a proposal to update the list of war martyrs, inclusive of names from different communities, at the record book of Manipur State Archives.
