Dy CM flags off LOUSAL cycle rally

IMPHAL, Apr 16 : Deputy CM Yumnam Joykumar Singh flagged off a cycle rally organised by Loumee Sinmee Apun Lup (LOUSAL) under the theme ‘Save Agricultural Land And Permaculture/Organic Agriculture’ at Kangla Western gate today.

Speaking at the event, Joykumar said that the people need to work together to preserve agricultural land and wetlands.

He pointed out that farmers need to change their mindset and approach in order to increase their income adding that farmers can adopt techniques like double cropping or even plant substitute crops like dals, pulses, vegetables in place of their main crops instead of keeping their fields empty.

Joykumar expressed the need for the State Government to adopt a Land Policy which would protect the agricultural land and wetlands.

Replying to a query about the resignation of Minister Jayanta Kumar, he said that the matter would be discussed as soon as the Chief Minister arrives at Imphal and declined to comment further.

Speaking at the event, LOUSAL president Mutum Churamani said that ever since 2012, LOUSAL has been organising many awareness programmes to conserve agricultural lands and to promote organic farming.
