Following a notification of the Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) to evict all street vendors from Khwairamband market, IMC officials started driving out street vendors and they also scattered goods/merchandises of the street vendors which resulted in tense scuffle between the two sides.
In the process, three vendors collapsed and they were taken to JNIMS.
They have been identified as Maniton of Thanga, Ibemcha of Mayang Imphal and Tombi of Porompat.
Earlier, a large number of street vendors gathered together at Alu Gali with an intention to call on the Chief Minister, the MAHUD Minister and the IMC, and submit a petition against the IMC’s order.
But some of them insisted that the elected representatives should come to them, not the other way round.
Even as a police team tried to pacify the infuriated street vendors, the street vendors did not move but stayed together at Alu Gali till late evening.
The street vendors remarked that the IMC adopted a tyrannical posture since the new Government was sworn in.
They said that volunteers engaged in cleaning the market started scattering and confiscating goods at the instruction of IMC’s Assistant Engineer (Mechanical) Chingsubam Meneka.
