Chief minister N Biren beats the traditional gong to kick-start the felicitation function at Brig Thomas ground, Kangpokpi

IMPHAL: Chief Minister N Biren on Wednesday announced an economic package of Rs 185 crore for development works in Kangpokpi district. He announced the package at a felicitation cum blessing ceremony hosted in his honour by Kuki Inpi and CSOs of Kangpokpi district at Brig. M Thomas Ground.

Earlier, the chief minister inaugurated District Information Office (DIO) and District Social Welfare Office (DSWO). Kangpokpi is the first district among the newly created districts
which has DIO under Directorate of Information and Public Relations. It will enable people of the district to access Government-related information from the office. In order to facilitate smooth running of the newly opened office, one each District Information Officer, Information
Assistant, Office Assistant and Grade-IV staff have also been deputed to DIO Kangpokpi.

After the inauguration of the two offices at DC Office complex, Kangpokpi, a 24-minute documentary film entitled, ‘Go to the Hills’ produced by DIPR Manipur was also released by the CM, ministerial colleagues and parliamentary secretaries Later, addressing a gathering at
Brig M Thomas ground, the CM said that the new government opens its door 24X7 to the people so that their grievances and issues could be promptly reviewed by the ministers
concerned. The new government is  committed to upholding a transparent and accountable government so as to make Manipur corruption free, he added.

Biren further said, “What we need in the state is to change our mind-set and outlook so that no ethnic difference is be there among the various communities.” He also urged the people to unite against any vested interest based on religion or ethnic lines. He stressed that the new government adopts a humanity approach and is prioritising health, education and infrastructure development so as to have an inclusive development in both hills and valley areas.

To monitor various development works in each district, the CM said, the government would assign principal secretaries to assist the District Commissioners for better governance
in hill districts.

The economic package, Biren said will be for construction of a women’s market (Rs 10 cr), ITI (Rs 9.5 cr), Sadbhavna hall (Rs 2.5 cr), Tribal Girls’ Hostel (Rs 2.25 cr) and Guest House (Rs 2 cr) among others.

Minister for IPR, PWD, RD&PR Th Biswajit, who also attended the function, said that the inauguration of DIO, Kangpokpi is the need of the hour so that government policies and development programmes could be disseminated through this office.

He also assured that various policies such as pension schemes, ex-gratia, etc., regarding welfare of working journalists would be revised.

Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin “Housing for All” scheme, the minister said, the Central government has already sanctioned Rs 51 crore to build houses in Manipur. He assured power supply to all villages of the state by 2019 along with informing that MANIREDA units would be installed in off-power areas. He further stressed that every district would have a district Handloom and Handicraft Centre to train, develop skill and generate employment opportunities.

IFC minister Letpao Haokip, PHE minister L Dikho, Social Welfare minister Nemcha Kipgen, Forest and Environment minister Th Shyamkumar, Education minister Th Radheshyam, Tribal and Hill Areas Development minister N Kayasii, Hill Area Committee chairman TT Haokip, Manipur Pollution Control Board chairman L Radhakishore, parliamentary secretaries L Sushindro, S Subhaschandra, N Indrajit, K Robindro, H Dingo, K Leishiyo, Dr Sapam Ranjan and L Rameshwor Meetei were also present at the function.

Traditional gong, shawls and bouquets were presented to the Chief Minister by the organisers. Various cultural programmes were also showcased by different communities.
Earlier Chief Minister N Biren was warmly received by a large number of people at Gangiphai and Kalapahar on his way to Kangpokpi district headquarters.

Despite incessant rainfall, a large number of people lined-up on roadsides to welcome the Chief Minister holding placards that read ‘Welcome Hon’ble CM N. Biren Singh’ and ‘Long Live N. Biren’.

On his arrival at Gangiphai village located along NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur road), representatives of Sadar Hills Chiefs’ Association presented him a traditional shawl on behalf of the villagers.
Later, they also submitted a memorandum highlighting their grievances to the CM.

The Chief Minister was also accorded warm welcome at Kalapahar. He was received by a large number of people at the village mostly inhabited by Gorkha people where a brief reception was also hosted by Sadar Hills Gorkha Union.

Union leaders presented Gorkha traditional Khukri, hat and shawl to the Chief Minister before he left the village for Kangpokpi.
