Rtd Lt Gen Himalaya set to become MPSC head

IMPHAL: Retired Lieutenant General Konsam Himalaya Singh, who is the first Indian Army officer from North-East to become a Lieutenant General, will be appointed as chairman of Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC).

According to official reports, a decision to this effect was arrived at during the cabinet meeting held on Friday and an order in this regard is likely to be issued very soon. The post for MPSC chairman has been remaining vacant  ever since Dilip Sinha got retired in 2016.

Apart from Dilip Sinha, other members of the commission  including P Bhorot Singh and LP Golmei have also retired and their posts still remaining vacant. An alumnus of Sainik School, Goalpara, Assam, Konsam Himalaya Singh was commissioned in 2 Rajput battalion in 1978 and commanded 27 Rajput when it was based in  Siachen. A specialist in Jammu and Kashmir operations after having done five stints there, the officer was awarded Yudh Sewa Medal for his unit’s gallant actions during Kargil war in 1999.
