Fuel adulteration racket busted

Imphal, May 11 2017: Imphal West District Police have busted a racket which was adulterating petrol and selling the same commodity in black market.

Meanwhile, CAF&PD Minister Karam Shyam has warned that stern action would be initiated against all the frauds.

One oil tanker truck, fuel storage tanks of different shapes and sizes and several colouring agents were recovered when a police team led by Imphal West Additional SP Priyadarshini Laishram and Narcotic Cell OC Inspector W Ranjit raided Nongmaithem Kuber Brick Field located at Heikrujam Awang Leikai, Imphal West district under Nambol police station today.

Four plastic storage tanks containing 5000 litres, 2000 litres, 1800 litres and 1000 litres of fuel (petrol, kerosene and ‘Zero’) were also found.

A steel tank containing 2000 litres of fuel was also found.

Zero is a type of gasolene with lower density.

Further, 8 Kls of fuel were found inside an oil tanker truck of capacity 18 Kls.

All the tanks have been sealed and they are being guarded by police.

They would be taken into police custody tomorrow morning.

Meanwhile, due investigation has been launched after registration of a case at Nambol police station.

The particular brick field belongs to one Nongmaithem Herojit (43) s/o late Kuber of Heikrujam.

Meanwhile CAF&PD Minister Karam Shyam visited the brick field and inspected the seized fuel tanks together officials of his department.

He stated that the Government would take up stern action against such fraudulent practices.

No political interference would be entertained in such matters and befitting action would be initiated against all those people involved in adulterating and hoarding fuels.

The Minister also lauded the police team led Additional SP Priyadarshini Laishram.

Karam Shyam then appealed to oil retailers not to go ahead with their decision of shutting down retail outlets in protest against the alleged excesses committed by the CAF&PD Director.

There is a Government and there should be room for dialogue.

But launching agitation without giving any option for dialogue is unacceptable, Shyam asserted.

Shyam was accompanied by CAF&PD Commissioner K Radhakumar and Director Ranjan Yumnam during his visit to the brick field.
