Give up Meitei centric mentality: CM Biren

Imphal, May 14 (DIPR) :“Meiteis should play the role of a big bother and should give up the ‘Meitei-centric’ mentality to bring peace, harmony and feeling of togetherness among the different ethnic communities of the State”, said Chief Minister N Biren Singh at the 82nd annual meet cum award distribution ceremony of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal at Maharaja Chandrakirti Auditorium, Imphal today.

The programme was organised jointly by Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal and Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur.

The function was graced by Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Health and Family Welfare and Art and Culture Minister L Jayantakumar Singh and Manipuri Sahitya Parishad president Professor N Tombi Singh as presidium members.

Stating that the new State Government is fully committed to deliver good governance in the State, the Chief Minister said, “We should share each other’s knowledge so that we could build up a feeling of oneness among ourselves. The State Government aims to ensure transparency and accountability and is always open for the people to discuss their grievances.”

N Biren Singh said, “Without the help and support of the people of the State, it would be impossible to solve the issues of four-month long economic blockade and more than two years old agitation against the ‘Anti-tribal Bills”.

He said that media should play a positive and constructive role in the society. He further appealed the media houses not to publish only the violence related news or anti-Government news that can put the State in the wrong light.

The Chief Minister also assured to provide a recurring grant of Rs 5 lakh every year to Manipuri Sahitya Parishad.

Altogether, 26 awards which included Sahitya Bhusan, Sangeet Bhusan, Natya Bhusan, Kala Bhusan and cash awards were distributed.

Late Yumnam Yaima, Sagolsem Tijendra Singh, Lourembam Bedabati, Gangmei Alana Kabui, Rani Khidir Devi were among the recipients.
