IMPHAL, May 8: In a major breakthrough in the murder case of Lunglailu Rongmei (20) of Chingmeirong Kabui Khul, who was found murdered on her bed on May 5 afternoon, SP Imphal West N Herojit has confirmed that the young housewife was killed by her husband Khuraijam Inaocha.

Briefing media persons in connection with the case today, SP Herojit claimed that Inaocha had confessed to killing his wife after he sneaked inside their room during his school timing so that no one got suspicious of him.

He said that a team of Imphal West district police was put in task to crack the murder case and SDPO Lamphel police station O Wangkhomba was appointed as the Investigation Officer of the case after an FIR with regard to the incident was registered in Lamphel police station.
He said that the prime accused Inaocha @ Nenith (40), his mother Mema Devi (63) and sister-in-law Ashalata Devi were apprehended on the day of the crime on suspicion.
During the investigation of the case, Inaocha yesterday night confessed that he had killed his wife.

Elaborating on the case, the SP said that Inaocha went to the school where he works as a teacher and during lunch break he came to his house and after committing the crime he returned to the school and acted normally so that no one suspected anything.
He said that it would not be appropriate to reveal other facts of the case as the investigation of the case is at the initial stage.

Observing that the investigation of the case was somehow delayed due to the demolition of the accused’s house by an irate mob, the police officer appealed to the people to have faith in police in solving such crime.

Meanwhile, a reliable source said that a team of Lamphel police today recovered a pillow from the accused’s house, which is believed to have been used in smothering the housewife.
It may be mentioned that the housewife was found dead with her throat slit inside her bedroom.

A large number of people had witnessed the dead body before the area was cordoned off by police. They also saw a kitchen knife on a bed side table suspected to have been used in committing the crime.

Later, angry womenfolk of the locality vandalised household properties of Inaocha as they suspected that he committed the crime in cahoots with his mother.
