Ngayaising scripts history as first Tangkul Everester

UKHRUL | May 28: Ngayaising Jagoi, 28, born to Vaomi and Elisha Jagoi of Phalee village, Ukhrul district of Manipur became the first Tangkhul to scale Mount Everest on May 27.
Conquering of Mount Everest has added another rare feature in Jagoi’s list of achievements and brought smiles and praises from every individual of Tangkhul community.

Jagoi has been posted as an Assistant Executive Engineer (Production), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) at Agartala since 2013 and is an active social worker. He is one of the founding members of Tangkhul Techies Consulto, a first of its kind that has been providing free career counselling, educational camps and free medical camps to Tangkhul community.

He is also the first Naga to graduate directly from Indian School of Mine, Dhanbad.
Sources said ONGC has expressed their excitement to have one of the first corporates in the world to successfully scale the Everest.

Three ONGC employees, Yogendar Garbiyal, Ngayaising Jagoi and Rahul Jarngal created history by summiting the Mount Everest (8848 m) under the leadership of Loveraj Singh Dharamshaktu, assistant commandant, BSF, representing Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF).

The 12 member ONGC expedition team was further divided into two sub-groups, Team 1 and Team 2 and Yogendar, Loveraj, Ngayaising, Rahul were part of the Team 2. Yogendar and Loveraj summited the peak at 6:10 am while Ngayaising and Rahul made to the top at 7:45 on May 27 and they all returned to South Col (Camp 4) at 10:45 am and are in good health condition.

The expedition was flagged-off by Dharmendra Pradhan, MoS (in charge), Petroleum and Natural gas on March 27 and the team left for Nepal in the first week of April and have since then summited various peaks, including Lobuche East (6119 mtrs) and climbed till Everest Camp 3 as part of the acclimatisation exercise.

Earlier, Team 1 attempted summit push on May 25 but unfavourable weather conditions forced them to come down to Camp 2. It may be mentioned that Ngayaising Jagoi ranked 23rd in HSLC examination in 2005 from Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, Ukhrul and also stood 12th rank in Class XII COHSEM examination 2007. Later he went on to clear IIT JEE in 2008 and graduated with B Tech in Petroleum Engineering from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.
