NIA records statements in Ranjit case

IMPHAL, May 18 : National Investigation Agency (NIA) recorded the statement of three prosecution witnesses including two women and a restaurant owner yesterday as a follow-up investigation of the different cases taken up against the arrested Commander-in-Chief of KCP (Poirei Meitei) Khoirom Ranjit for extortion, bomb attack, kidnapping for ransom and others.

The statements of the two women namely Phurailatpam Romabati, Loitam Bedamala @ Bebe @ Bebeloi and the restaurant owner L Senapati were recorded before the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Imphal West-II at Lamphelpat.

The investigation agency had summoned former JNIMS Director Mutum Shamo and the two women May 16 for recording their statements in connection with the cases.

Earlier today, Investigation Officer of the cases, DSP Ramveer Singh Tyagi of NIA had filed two different applications with the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West praying for recording statement of the trio under Section 164 of CrPC.

Admitting the case as criminal miscellaneous case, the Court directed JMIC Imphal West-II to allow the investigation agency to record their statement. Sources said the NIA team will leave Imphal for Delhi tomorrow along with the arrested Commander-in-Chief of the outfit.
Mention may be made that Ranjit @ Rocky @ Great Macha (36) of Yairipok Laimanai, who was arrested by Special Cell Delhi police from Mayur Vihar, New Delhi along with his companion Ingudam Sanatombi on January 12 last were brought to Imphal a few days back for the second time for investigation of the cases.
