Operational unit of all forces in the offing

IMPHAL, May 9: With a view to enable prompt response to any law and order problem, an operational unit comprising of representatives of all security agencies would be opened within a week. This was stated by Chief Minister N Biren while launching an exclusive website for the Shirui Lily Festival at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat this afternoon.

He informed that a meeting of the Combined Headquarters (CHQs) was held today and it agreed to open an operational unit.

The CHQs meeting which was attended by police, army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF and other security agencies deliberated on the killing of two Territorial Army personnel in IED blast near Lokchao yesterday and the killing of two cadres of UG groups under SoO pact.

The operational unit would work to thwart all unlawful activities including which took place on highways recently by informing security forces who are deployed on ground, stated the Chief Minister.

The operational unit which would be headed by the Chief Minister as Chairman would be monitored round the clock on rotational basis by police, army, AR, CRPF and BSF.

Location of the operational unit’s would be decided shortly. There were cases when criminals fled after committing crimes even though security forces could have chased and apprehended them due to lack of proper monitoring, Biren stated.

He categorically stated that no cadres of UG groups under SoO pact should indulge in any unlawful activity.

Due initiative has been launched to confine cadres of SoO groups within their designated camps and register their attendance through biometric system.

Around Rs six crore which should be given to cadres of SoO groups as their monthly stipend during the past two years was found unpaid. Moreover, the State’s surrender policy was found not implemented.

Nonetheless, the State Government has been working on a new surrender policy and it is eliciting suggestions from Assam Rifles and Army.

Biren hailed the Nagaland Chief Minister’s visit to the State as a landmark development.
The Nagaland Chief Minister was asked to hand over MSRTC complex of Dimapur to the Government of Manipur and Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu assured that he would help in restoring the MSRTC complex to the Government of Manipur, Biren conveyed.

He further informed that he would visit Nagaland by road.
