Police bust document forging racket

Addressing a press conference in connection with the incident, Imphal East district police SP, K Kabib, said that the police team has been tracking the racketeers since the last ten days following a tip off by a source.

He said that the break through finally came today at 4.30 pm when they raided a shop named “Rome Rubber Stamp Works” located Khurai Lamlong bazaar.

The entire operation was carried out under the supervision of Additional SP (LO) Wungpam Kasar along with SDPO Porompat Roni, Sub Inspector S Sachin and Pradeep.

The arrested individuals which included five women and three male will be charged with cheating, forgery, conspiracy and other relevant sections, said the SP.

They have been identified as Irungbam Geeta, 52, wife of I Ibochou Singh of Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai, Wangkheimayum Tombi, 35, wife of W Kiran Singh of Kiyamgei Khoirom Leikai, Sadokpam Inaobi, 38, wife of (L) S Sunil of Kongba Kshetri Leikai, Gurumayum Ibeyaima, 44, wife of G Brajachand of Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai, Kongkham Tama, 50, wife of (L) K Shyam of Bamon Kampu, Sagolshem Romesh, 47, son of S Chaoba of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai, Khuleibam Mustak, 20, son of K Randan of Yairipok Bamon Leikai and Pukhrimayum Ishlamuddin, 40, son of (L) P Babu of Kshetrigao Yangbi Khunou.

The recovered items includes equipment includes one full computer set with printers, a lamination machine, rubber stamp making machines, seals and stamps of various government offices and banks, 6 pension books, 22 pass books, 6 Adhaar cards, two driver’s licenses, educational certificates, vehicles registration documents etc.
