Stricter norms set for licence to ‘hazardous’ transporters

IMPHAL: The driving licence issuing authorities have started new norm/procedure for obtaining driving licence by drivers of goods carriers transporting dangerous or hazardous goods in the state from May 2.

According to a release issued by the Secretary of Transport Department, prior to application for driving licence by drivers of goods carriages carrying dangerous or hazardous goods, the applicant should be holder of driving licence for operating transport vehicles.

The minimum education qualification of the applicant should be class eighth standard and have the ability to read and write one Indian language and English. The applicant should also possess a certificate of having successfully passed a course consisting of syllabus and periodicity connected with the transport of such goods which will consist of three days of
training at any institute recognised by the state government, it added.

The release further stated that all district transport officers (DTOs) will process and dispose application for hazardous licence within two days on priority. A cell is also being set up in the Directorate of Transport office to operate 24×7 for verification of driving licence, compilation of report etc., and will be manned by Ksh Kanto Singh, LDC; S T Vaiphei, LDC; Ph Bijoykumar, LDC; Binod Rai, checker; Deepak Singh and L Bikash, grade-IV.
