Woman labourer shot dead, Moreh calls bandh

Moreh | May 22 : A woman labourer was shot to death allegedly by some unknown miscreants coming on a motorcycle today at around 4 pm at Premnagar, Ward No 4, Moreh.

The woman labourer has been identified as Arambam (O) Shanti Devi, wife of Late, A Ibobi Singh. The reason behind the killing could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report.

Hearing the news, all the shops and markets in the town were closed down immediately in fear.

In connection to the unfortunate incident, Meetei Council, Hill Tribal Council, Manipuri Muslim Council, All Community Development Organisation Moreh (ACODOM), Gorkha Samaj and Tamil Sangam held an all community meeting at MCM conference hall at 5 pm, wherein the different leaders of Moreh condemned the inhumane act in strongest terms and discussions were carried in regard to the consistent increase of crime in the town.

It may mentioned that there had been series of unfortunate incidents in Moreh and surrounding villages, a bomb blast at Gangam Lentol on May 18, twin IED ambush at Kwatha village on May 19 and another bomb blast near the fencing of Moreh Police Station, Moreh Ward No.2 on May 20.

The locals of Moreh town expressed their strong dissatisfaction in the duty of security forces after witnessing the simultaneous incidents of crime and stated that Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, Manipur Rifles and police commandos are not performing their real duties though they are in the town.

All communities of Moreh has called for 24 hours bandh from 8 pm tonight and demanded that the state government should find out the culprits behind the crime within 48 hours or the death body will not be taken if the government fail to do so with further actions against the crime.

Meantime, another meeting of all community leaders was held at 7:20 pm at MCM conference hall, attended by Raghumani, DC, Tengnoupal, Somorjit Singh, SP, Tengnoupal, N Gojendro Singh, ADC, Moreh and M Mubi Singh, Additional SP, Moreh, and the issue of consistent crimes in last few days was discussed among the community leaders and security personnel.

In the meeting, it was also pointed out that today’s incident of killing occurred just one day after the discussion to maintain peace held on May 21 by community leaders, CO of 11 AR and SP of Tengnoupal. The easy way crimes happening in the town were strongly outcried by Meira Paibi leaders, and later, the DC and SP gave assurance in accordance to the desire of locals and the meeting concluded at 8:30 pm.
