When this reporter went to her residence after the result was declared, Priyanka was not at home as she had already got admission into DPS, Numaligarh (Assam).
When the news was delivered to her on the phone, the young Priyanka was over joyed. Her first response was ‘Ashengbagira?’ (Really ?)
Stunned into silence for some seconds, the young girl quickly recovered and credited her parents, teachers who have guided since her nursery days, friends and siblings, for her success. Already in Class XI, Science stream, Priyanka started studying at Nirmalabas from Class III.
Significantly the first topper in the Class X examination did not take any private tuition till Class IX. It was only in Class X that she started taking private tuition especially to hone her skills in Maths.
Following this, Maths has become her favourite subject.
She said that in the morning she did not get much time to study as she was busy attending private tuitions, but in the evening she made it a point to study at least 4 hours a day.
Stating that private tuitions are not needed that much, provided the students learn properly in the class room and the teachers teach properly, Priyanka said that it is consistent hard and sincere work that has made her come out on top of the examination.
Priyanka said that she decided to pursue her further studies outside the State due the large scale bandh and blockade culture and added that this affects not only the daily wage earners but also students.
The topper got admitted to DPS, Numaligarh on the basis of her marks in the Class IX and pre-board exams and after clearing the entrance test, informed her mother RK Raina Devi.
Her father M Humeshwar Singh is employed with the BSNL as Assistant Director while her mother worked as a Lecturer in Anthropology at Regional College, Lilong but has now stopped working.
