The programme is organised as a part of Financial Literacy Week.
T Hauzel, Chief Manager, Reserve Bank of India said that the main aim of observing the week is to spread awareness on the need for financial literacy specially among the financially excluded masses. The week will be observed under 4 themes – Know your Customer, Exercising Credit Discipline, Grievance Redressal and Going Digital.
Awareness posters will be put up in bank branches, ATM booths and bank websites, he added.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Governor Dr Najma Heptulla expressed her happiness to be a part of the observance but said that low turn out of women who are involved in economic and financial activities was disappointing.
“Women of Manipur have been activelyparticipating in the economic activities of the State and they enjoy economic freedom unlike women of other parts of the country,” she said and urged those who have come from outisde the State to attend the Financial Literacy Week to visit the Ima Keithel to witness their vital role in the State economy.
The Governor also drew the attention of the bank staff to inculcate the habit of small savings for sound financial management among the dynamic female entrepreneurs of the State.
“Capacity building is very much necessary to make the people aware of the various fundings in both rural and urban areas. As modern technology has been misused, people should be made aware of various fraudulent activities,” she added.
She said that banks should come forward to develop entrepreneurial skills and provide finance for viable and sustainable micro, small and medium enterprises which create jobs and local employments. Manipur is very rich in bio-resources specially traditional plant and floriculture. Bank should join hands and co-operate with experts to promote financial activities. A booklet on Financial Awareness Messages (FAME) was also released by the Governor.
