Development from grassroots level necessary : Dikho

IMPHAL, Jun 10: PHED Minister L Dikho has said that development from grassroots level is necessary to improve the conditions of academic institutions in the hill areas and to solve the problem of lack of proper educational facilities.

He made the statement at the inauguration ceremony of a newly constructed building block of Asufii Christian Institute at Punanamei Mao, Senapati district today. He pointed out that the institute has been established to provide education to the under privileged students of remote hill areas and added that education and knowledge are necessary to bring development to the society.

Dikho expressed belief that the Government schools, institutes and establishments in the hill areas can also improve with enough emphasis from the State Government and pointed out that possibility that Asuffi Christian Institute may even become a University level establishment in the future.

He pointed out that improvement of the institution along with all the other Government schools and colleges would not only help the poor student of the hill areas but would also entice other students from outside the State to study here.

Praising the efforts of the teachers and staffs of the institute, Dikho assured to take up every possible steps to develop the institute further by having a meeting with the concerned Department.

Parliamentary Secretary S Subhaschandra, Manipur University College Development Council Professor Ratankumar, Senapati ADC chairman ML Markson, ex MLA Dr Alexander Pao, Professor N Joykumar Singh, Tadubi SDO Songson, Mao Baptist Church Association officials, Asuffi Christian Institute principal, teachers, students and the general public took part in the event.
