Electricity yet to dawn on Pherzawl dist

IMPHAL, Jun 9: Even though a power sub-station has been constructed, electricity still remains a dream at Pherzawl district headquarters.

The State Government constructed a 33/11 KV power sub-station at Pherzawl headquarters about three years back. The construction work was completed in 2015 and subsequently electric wires were stringed at different localities of Pherzawl headquarters. Yet, electric current has never passed through the stringed wires.

Although many of the households located at Pherzawl district headquarters use solar home lighting systems, a considerable number of households cannot afford solar home lighting systems.

District Council Member LP Fimate, elected from Parbung District Council, said that Electricity Department gave assurance to make electricity available at Pherzawl headquarters by 2015 Christmas after construction of power sub-station was completed in the same month of the same year. But the department’s assurance came to nought.

After a Primary Health Sub-Centre was constructed in 2014-15 under Multi Sectoral Development Programme (MSDP), the PHSC’s premises have been overgrown with shrubs and grasses.

The PHSC remain shut with wooden planks nailed across its main door.
Pherzawl village chief Ramsangthang Infimate said that they have to hire vehicle at the cost of Rs 15,000 if any one gets ill and he/she must be taken to Churachandpur.

Although there is a PHSC at Parbung but nobody can say for sure there would be a doctor there. As such, people take sick persons up to Churachandpur even though it entails much larger expenditures.

The requisite staff have not been posted at Pherzawl PHSC. There was a chowkidar but he has been transferred to another village, said the Pherzawl village chief.
Many of the villages located within Pherzawl district produce abundant quantities of ginger, banana, litchi etc. There was a passenger bus service of MSRTC till 1985 which passed through these interior villages.

Nowadays, passenger bus service is quite pathetic.
Pointing out that the condition of the 77 Kms long Pherzawl district headquarters-Tipaimukh road is highly deplorable, some villagers sought immediate attention of the Government.
