PDS rice bags seized, handed to Lilong police station

THOUBAL, Jun 20: Volunteers of All India Tanzeem-e-Insaaf (AITI), All Manipur Muslim Development Committee (AMMDC) and Lilong Political Unified Link (LIPUL), Lilong yesterday seized around 320 bags of NFSA rice meant for poor people and which was being sold for profit to a shop owner.

Later, the seized PDS item was handed to Lilong police station.

AITI, Lilong Council National Secretary Islauddin stated that yesterday, the team rushed to the area when they were notified about CAP &PD Department vehicle depositing rice bags at the shop of one Md Abo of Lilong Usoipokpi Chingkham Mamang.

P Gojendro and his wife Puyam ongbi Thangjam Sobita (50) of Singjamei Waikhom Leikai and the truck driver K Sanajaoba along with four labourers were caught depositing the rice bags at the shop.

On suspicion, the individuals were asked about the rice bags but they gave different answers to the same question and all of them possessed different challans.

140 bags of rice had already been deposited inside the shop while the remaining 180 bags were taken to the AITI Lilong Council office where the individuals were informed to come today. After they failed to appear at the office, the items were handed over to Lilong police station and the volunteers have urged the authority concerned to look into the matter immediately.

LIPUL, Lilong chief advisor MA Zabbar said, “Those culprits who misuse the PDS items meant for the poor and who sell the rice at Rs 30 per Kg instead of its original price (Rs 3/kg) should be punished, he stated.
