‘Repayment’ starts for ‘lost rice’

IMPHAL, Jun 21: Fair Price Shop agents of Konthoujam Assembly constituency have claimed that the ex-MLA of the Assembly segment and the agents nominated by him have started repaying for the ‘lost’ rice which should have been distributed to people of the Assembly segment under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).

Speaking to media persons today, newly nominated 12 Fair Price Shop agents of Konthoujam AC said that PDS rice for the months of April, May, June and August last year were distributed to Priority Card holders but AAY card holders were not given any rice for the same months.

Again, even as rice allocations for Konthoujam AC for September to December last year and January to March this year were lifted by agents, neither Priority card holders nor AAY card holders were distributed any rice, they alleged.

After enquiry by incumbent MLA Dr Sapam Ranjan into non-distribution of rice, an agreement was struck between the MLA and concerned agents/individuals. Subsequently, the agents have started repaying for one month’s rice allocation of 1650 quintals.

The same would be distributed to beneficiaries shortly, they assured. The former agents have also assured that they would repay for the remaining months, added the new agents.
