IMPHAL, Jun 3 : Democratic Students’ Alliance Manipur (DESAM) and other local organisations today raised ‘Go Back Assam Rifles’ slogans during its sit-in against the dead of Aribam Shanti, who was allegedly shot dead by the Assam Rifles in Moreh on May 22.

The protest demonstration staged at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai community hall was joined by the members of DESAM, United NGOs Mission, Manipur (UNM-M), Widow Self-Help Group, Conflict Widow Forum, Domestic Violence Survivors’ Forum, Centre for Women Development, WAD, People’s Platform Secretariat (PPS) and other local organisations.
WAD secretary Sobita Mangsatabam said, “We strongly condemned the death of Aribam Shanti. Shanti was a hard working labourer.

According to the eye witness, it can be ascertained that the indiscriminate firing was carried by none other than the Assam Rifles personnel. During these few weeks, there had been five bomb blasts in Moreh area.

Ever since, Assam Rifles Commanding Officer Col Manoj AP was posted here, numerous anti-social activities have occurred. Col Manoj AP and Assam Rifles should leave Manipur.”
