7th Pay demand gets more audible

IMPHAL, Jan 20: The JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO has threatened to announce a series of agitation in case the Chief Minister does not take a concrete decision on the employees’ demand for adopting the pay scales recommended by the 7th Central Pay Commission by January 31.
Speaking to media persons at their Babupara office this afternoon, JAC secretary general Laitonjam Biken said that the JAC submitted a 22-point charter of demands to the previous Government demanding payment of the 7th Pay.
Even though the new Government repeatedly assured that the 7th Pay would be implemented soon, there is no sign of translating the same assurance into action.
Such lackadaisical attitude of the State Government has aggrieved the JAC very much. In case the State Government does not take a concrete decision on the issue by January 31, the JAC would be constrained to launch a series of agitation together with all other federating units, Biken said.
The JAC and the Chief Minister had talked three times on the issue with the latest meeting held on October 26 last year.
The Chief Minister sought three months’ time saying that the matter was being examined by the fitment committee.
The three months’ period would expire on January 26.
After a failed attempt to meet the Chief Minister on January 4, the JAC sought an appointment with the Chief Secretary on January 6 but the appointment was given only today.
Subsequently, representatives of the JAC held a meeting with the Chief Secretary at 10 am today.
The Chief Secretary reportedly told the JAC representatives that due preparations for implementation of the 7th Central Pay Commission’s recommendation have been completed by 85 per cent but it needs a political decision and Cabinet approval, Biken conveyed.
