SEACO urges Govt. to settle Land dispute at Senjam Chirang; warn serious consequences

Imphal, Jan 3: South East Asia Cultural Organisation (SEACO) has warned the government of serious consequences if the issue of Senjam Chirang Village in Imphal West district has not been settled at the earliest possible time.

In a statement, the SEACO said that it will launch various form of agitation if the government fails to settle the issue at the earliest possible time.

“SEACO stands to protect every inch of ancestral land and the land of Meitei should be protected by the Meitei only”, the statement said. It further added that respect and recognition of each community is a must for maintaining peace and tranquility in the region.

SEACO’s statement said that the disputed land was gifted to Senjam Chirang Villagers and the village along with its surroundings is recorded as 40- Senjam Khunou (Sheet No. 4) under Imphal West district. SEACO have all relevant documents regarding this, the statement added. The organization further warns acquisition and occupation of the land belonging to the villagers of Senjam Chirang saying that it will stand for the villagers. SEACO also reminded the “The Manipur Code, Part –II” published by the Government of Manipur Law Department which stated that “ Laws made or extended by the Erstwhile Rulers of Manipur, including the Darbar, Interim Council and the Legislative Assembly are still in force.

SEACO appealed the government to act as according to the provision and vow to protect the so call disputed land in favour of the Senjam Chirang Villagers.
