Five UGs, drug trafficker held by security combing teams

Imphal, Aug 13: At least six persons including five UGs belonging to different underground outfits and one drug trafficker were apprehended by the security forces during separate operations conducted since last two days in different parts of the state.

A team of Imphal West district police commandos under the supervision of Th Krishnatombi Singh, Dy SP (CDO) Imphal West and Y Kishorchand Meitei, Inspector CDO Imphal West apprehended a cadre of underground UPKK identified as Akoijam Waibi alias Bobby Singh, 32, son of  AK Biren Singh of  Wangkhei Ayangpalli Laishram Leikai from Yaiskul Janmasthan this morning around 7.30 am during a specific raid.

According to an official source, a mine bomb was seized from the arrested cadre and he was reportedly working under the command of one Andy alias Malem of Wangkhei of the outfit and he was also reportedly assigned to serve demand letters to government departments for party funds.

The source further revealed that during the follow up operations conducted by the same CDO team of Imphal West this morning they were able to arrest another cadre of the UPPK identified as Khaidem Joykumar alias Ibungo Singh, son of Kh Tombi Meitei of  Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Leirak around 8.30 am and also recovered a 9mm pistol loaded with three live rounds in the magazine from his possession.

In another incident the troops of 33 Assam Rifles under Army Red Shield Division apprehended a hardcore cadre of the underground PLA identified as S/S Private Laishram Romi alias Nanao alias Bankgkim Chandra Singh, 28, son of L Ibotombi Singh of Moirang Thoya, from Moirang Thanga Lawai during operation conducted on the intervening night of August 12 and 13.

According to a statement of PRO Defence, the arrested PLA cadre was reportedly involved in extortion related activities in Moirang area.

In yet another incident, discovering the presence of UG cadres in general area of Lower Phaibung, troops of 17 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) launched operation in the area and apprehended one NNW (PSG) terrorist yesterday evening around 9.30 pm.

According to the official statement of PRO HQ IGAR(South), the cadre revealed the presence of three OGWs of the outfit in the same village who were also apprehended later.
The arrested person were identified as D Seisou, 58,  son of Dani, J Dakhu, 21, son of Jacob and P Doneld, 34, son of Pumi of Phaibung Lower of Tadubi sub-division. One 9mm pistol with magazine, one live round of 9mm and three .38 rounds were recovered from them and they were later handed over to the Porompat police station.

The release further mentioned that troops of 17 Assam Rifles during search operation conducted in the general area of Phaibung village arrested a drug trafficker identified as S Wisdom, 40, son of Seizi of Phaibung village and the troops were also able to recover 330 kgs of contraband ganja and packaging machinery yesterday evening, the statement added.
