Seized sugar lying unclaimed as FCS men delay verification

IMPHAL, Aug 27: Altogether 410 bags of sugar claimed to belong to the Moreh Chambers of Commerce for distribution to the general public at Moreh, which were seized by 3rd IRB post at Wangjing on August 21 morning are still lying at Thoubal police station as the concerned authorities have failed to verify the veracity of the PDS item.

The PDS items loaded in two trucks bearing registration Nos. MN-01-7262, MN-01-7108 and heading for the border town of Moreh were halted by IRB personnel at Wangjing and later handed over to Thoubal police station for verification of the items by the concerned authorities.

On August 23, state FCS minister Y Irabot, upon hearing a report of the seizure, visited Thoubal police station and personally checked the PDS item. The minister promised to detail some officials of the state FCS department for verification of the PDS item, but so far no officials of the department have visited the Thoubal police station to check the PDS item.

This has caused a headache for the Moreh Chambers of Commerce which claimed to be the rightful owners of the PDS item, as also the truckers and the concerned police station.

To sort out the matter at the earliest, the OC of Thoubal police reportedly sent a message to the state FCS department for initiating necessary action for early disposal of the item, but no official of the state FCS department has visited the police station to verify the PDS item till now.
