24-hr general strike called over missing student

IMPHAL, Sep 4: The Joint Action Committee formed against the disappearance of Md Rohit alias Lemba of Golapati Maning Leikai has called a 24-hours general strike effective from midnight of September 5.

This was declared by JAC secretary Md Manawar Ali during a press conference held today at the Manipur Press Club.

Speaking to the media at the press meet, Manawar Ali said the authorities of the Hundred Flower School should bear all the responsibility for the disappearance of Md Rohit, a Class VIII student of the school who went missing since August 19.

Mention may be made here that Rohit went missing after he was forced to leave the class room after a scuffle with a teacher namely N Rishikanta.
Manawar also said that the school authority was given ultimatum to produce Rohit on two occasions but they failed to produce the missing student. The last ultimatum expired on August 30 and neither the school authority, government nor the Parent Guardian Association of the school failed to produce the missing student, he added.

Announcing that the JAC has chalked out a line of action to be taken up against Hundred Flower School, Manawar Ali said the school will be closed from September 7 and asked parents and guardian of the boarding students to collect their students before September 7.
