Kidnapped lady doctor, nurse dramatically rescued by combined forces

Imphal, Sep 14: A combined team of Bishnupur district police, Imphal West district police commandos and personnels of the 32 Assam Rifles accomplishd a dramatic counter insurgency operation today.

The team managed to rescue kidnapped medical officer, MO, of Mekola Primary Health Centre Dr RK Joymati of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai and staff nurse Kh Kabita of Gavindagram.
The duo were rescued from an isolated Phumdi on Loktak Lake at the western side of Shantipur village under Wangoi police station this morning around 11.45 am.

Mention may be made that the lady doctor and the staff nurse had been kidnapped for ransom by some unidentified person yesterday.

In the meantime, deputy SP Bishnupur, Isaak Shah, while revealing details of the rescue operation told the media that the rescue operation was launched since last night in the peripheries of the Loktak Lake.

The operation was launched following an official information over the abduction of the medical officer of the Mekola Primary Health Centre and a staff nurse of the health centre yesterday afternoon by the two unidentified militants from their place of duty.

The combined security team carried out an extensive operation at Loktak Lake on getting specific information that some unidentified militants held them captives at one of the isolated Phumdi huts of Lotak Lake.

Addl SP Bishnupur further mentioned after a search through the night, the the combined security team discovered an isolated Phumdi hut at the western side of the Shantipur village under Wangoi police station this morning around 11.30 am.

When they raided and entered it, the two abducted person were found abandoned by their abductors.

They were rescued and brought to Bishnupur police station where their statements were taken and later handed over to their respective families, the police officer said.
