Ukhrul schools celebrate Teachers’ Day

UKHRUL, Aug 3: Although the countrywide celebration is on 5th of September to honor Indian leader Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, Ukhrul schools celebrated the Teachers’ Day today with pomp and gaiety. The celebration was observed in remembrance of the Indian leader, scholar, philosopher and teacher Radhakrishnan who stands alongside great leaders like Pt. Nehru and MK. Gandhi and was one of the most eminent leaders of his time.

Radhakrishnan was elected the President of India in May 1962 by an overwhelming majority and elevated to the highest Indian post. He was a great philosopher, educationist at Calcutta, Oxford and Benaras and also served as ambassador to Russia.

He was the second President of India, and among others gave advice to Stalin, Mao Se Tung, Nehru and Indira Gandhi. He was born on 5th September, 1888 at Tirutani, Madras (Chennai).

Some Ukhrul schools celebrated the occasion and some others will celebrate in the next few days according their convenience. Among the schools that celebrated today were the Ukhrul OTC Juniors’ Academy School which grandly conducted the occasion with various forms of entertainment, including dramatic display in the presence of 600 students and 20-25 teaching and non-teaching staffs enjoying the festivity.

The entertainment and talented displays on the occasion included action songs, fashion parade, slow dance, choreography, homo act, mono act, and puppet show by the students that enthralled all the teachers and students.

The Principal of the OTC Juniors’ Academy Philip L. Shimray in his address acknowledged the good performance of the school and encouraged the teaching staffs for their tireless efforts in moulding students resulting in the record of cent percent pass percentage in the results of the 2010 HSLC promotion examination.
