College teachers warn of launching agitation

IMPHAL, Oct 18: The Federation of College Teachers’ Associations, Manipur (FECTAM) has warned of launching stern agitations following the failure of the state government to materialize the assurances made for the implementation of 6th UGC pay scale along with enhancement of age of superannuation for the government college teachers.

A release of the federation said that the state government has befooled college teachers of the state by making false assurances for quite a long time saying teachers could no longer tolerate the government’s deceitful action.

The demands of the college teachers are not a burden to the government, the FECTAM said maintaining that UGC scheme has been implemented in the state for the past 37 years and it should be a normal process to review the scheme from time to time.

College teachers have remained silent for some time awaiting government’s timely response but the government has taken advantage of their silence and try to keep their rightful demands aside, the release mentioned.

The Federation further drew the attention of the state government to fulfill the demands of the teachers as soon as possible in view of uplifting the higher education sector of the state.
