Home orders comprehensive security for Naga ADC members in view of life threats

IMPHAL, Oct 12: A comprehensive arrangement to provide adequate security cover to the elected members of the Autonomous District Council, ADC, belonging to the Naga community has been ordered today by the state home department considering a threat perception against them on account of an underground outfit operating in the hill districts of the state.
According to a highly placed official source, the state police department with intelligence inputs has learned that one of the hill based underground organization NSCN (IM) has decided at the highest level to selectively target and eliminate those Naga individuals who initially did not honour its diktats for boycott of Hills District Council Elections and later after getting elected refused to resigned from their posts despite specific directions.
The official source further mentioned that the official police intelligence inputs also learnt that necessary instructions have been issued by the political leadership of the outfit to the field commanders to execute about half a dozen already selected targets without further delay.
On the other hand it was also learnt from the intelligence inputs that to begin with NSCN/IM is likely to target candidates belonging to the Tangkhul community who had defied outfit’s call.
In the meantime, considering all the intelligence inputs, the state police department has sent out an official crash messages to all concerned district police headquarters of the state from the PHQ today and advised to take up security arrangements for elected Naga members of the concerned hill District Council may be reviewed on an urgent basis and suitably augmented wherever necessary including identification of location where the targeted members are staying and work out a comprehensive security arrangement to provide proper security coverage and furnish to the police headquarter at the earliest.
The official source further mentioned that the said urgent crash message have been delivered to all police stations of both hills and valley district for taking up immediate security measures.
