Miscreants shoot dead youth, CDO kills a UG suspect

IMPHAL, Nov 18: In two seperate incidents of gun violence during the past 24 hours.

In the first incident armed miscreants shot death a youth at National Games village, Langol late last night while he was participating in a dice gambling locally known as Lagao.

In the second incident police commandos killed a youth suspected to be militant in what police claimed as encounter at Singjamei.

In the Langol incident which occured late last night, armed miscreants fired at group of people playing Lagao in which one youth was killed.

The victim is identified as one Manggoulen Haokip, 28, son of Tungkhojang Haokip of Saikul and currently staying at the Zone-IV, National Game Village quarter (No. B-149).

Family sources said the victim is a graduate having passed out from Manipur University and pursuing a diploma course in Pharmacy in Dibrugrah University, Assam.

Meanwhile, a joint action committee formed against the killing has resolved to call a 24 hour general strike in the hill districts of Manipur commencing from tomorrow.

According to sources, the incident occurred at about 8:30 pm at Zone-1 Taxi parking.

The victim along with some of his friends were joining a dice game at the area organized by two of the locals namely Md. Aboy and one Romen.

Minutes later two unidentified persons coming in a Santro Car (red in colour) bearing registration number AS-4641 joined the game and subsequently after few moments one of the two miscreants pulled out a small arm and shot the victim at point blank range without any warning, said the sources.

The victim sustained bullet injury at the rear side of his head and died on the way to hospital.

The JAC formed against the killing submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and demanded booking of the culprits involved in the incident and punishment as per the law.

In the meantime, a team of the Imphal West police commandos gunned down a youth suspected to be militant during an encounter this afternoon at Awang Khunou Loukon under Singjamei police station in Imphal West district.

A police source said, one 9mm pistol and a hand grenade were recovered from the possession of the deceased youth.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 3:30 pm today at Awang Khunou Loukon under the Singjamei Police station.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be established and the corpse has been deposited at the RIMS mortuary.
