IMPHAL, Jan 18: A befitting last rite was given to Maharaj Kumari Binodini, the youngest daughter of the late Maharaj Sir Churachand Singh and Maharani Dhanamanjuri, today at the local crematorium maintained by Yaishkul Club after dignitaries, family members, friends, relatives, well wishers paid the last respect.
The funeral procession of the last of the royal who passed away yesterday evening at 8.04pm was taken out late this morning with the body nestled on a “Kairen Kaijao-a coffin used only for the royal family of Manipur”, from her Yaishkul residence to the local crematorium.
The procession befitting of a queen of the state and was followed band parties and members of her family, friends and well-wishers.
Among the dignitaries who paid homage included politicians, IGAR (South) Maj. Gen. CA Krishnan, prominent writers and social workers of the state.
The mortal remains of Imasi was finally consigned to flames at around 11:45 am this morning.
Meanwhile, condolence messages have begun pouring in from all quarters with the titular king of Tripura Prabhu Dev Verman leading the way.
In an emailed message the royal house of Tripura has stated that, “Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we feel at the loss of the great soul, Maharaj Kumari Binodini, respectfully called Imasi.
Seashells remind us that every passing life leaves something beautiful behind. Her life has touched the lives and hearts of so many and her contribution to the people of the region will always be remembered.”
The Manipur Sahitya Parishad has also observed a condolence meeting in remembrance of the late Maharaj Kumari at its Paona Bazar office.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has also sent in their condolence meeting stating the lost of a person like the Maharj Kumari, who have contributed unaccountably in moulding the social structure of the state as a great lost to the state.
