IMPHAL, Jan 30: A statement of the PRO IGAR (S) has claimed that Assam Rifles troops have been able to rescue six misguided Naga youths who were taken away for recruitment by a militant outfit.
It said that over a period of time Assam Rifles along with the locals has been making persistent efforts to bring back young misguided youths to the folds of the mainstream society. Subsequent efforts helped in assisting such youths to escape from the clutches of the militant groups and on January 25, 2011 a team of Assam Rifles successfully rescued six young local boys aged between 18-20 years who were lured away from their home and subsequently forced to join the banned MNRF (Manipur Naga Revolutionary Front), group from Makan (under Kasom Khullen Sub Division in Ukhrul Dist) which is near the international border with Myanmar.
It was revealed by these youth that most of them were students, who had been lured by promise of a job in Moreh and later forced to join the MNRF camp near Tamu. In a goodwill gesture the Assam Rifles contacted the parents of all these boys, who hail from different parts of Manipur and later handed over the children to them in a ceremony held at Kasong, in the presence of the village heads/ elders as also the civil administration, added the statement.
