Arms held by cops, 5 security personnel killed: RPF

    IMPHAL Jan 6: The Revolutonary Peoples’ Front (RPF) in a press statement signed by the outfit’s Assistant Publicity Secretary GM Changjou alleged that the police commandos are with holding the total number of seized weapons confiscated from a cadre of the outfit.
    The release states that the SP of Imphal West paraded a cadre of the outfit in front of the media identified as Thounaojam Subhaschandra alias Sanju @ Boni ,27 , S/o Manihar of Wabagai Leirak Achouba. The cadre was arrested from the residence of one Heisnam Chaoba at Thangmeiband Watham Leirak Sinam Leikai on 27 December.
    The cadre had revealed an arms cache inclusive of two AK 56 rifles and four 9mm pistols.
    The SP in the media briefing failed to produce two 9mm pistols, and they are being kept by the police for their nefarious designs, the statement charged.
    Further, the arrested cadre is an area secretary and not a secretary of Division 6 of the outfit as claimed by the police.
    In another separate press statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of the outfit, T Leisemba claim to have carried out two separate ambushes and inflicting 5 fatalities to the paramilitary forces.
    The statement further states that the PLA and United Naga Peoples’ Council in a combined force carried out an ambush on 31 December in an area located within Khambi and Maring Khul under Ukhrul District at around 1.55 pm.
    The attack was carried out on the troops of 23rd Assam Rifles and three personnel were killed on the spot  while another two were mortally wounded among other causalities.
    Similarly, on January 1, 2011 at about 11 am, the combined team executed an ambush between Nambisa and Kangpat Khul of Kamjong sub division on troops of 12th AR and killed two personnel, but a cadre of the UNPC’s armed wing, the Ching Tam Liberation Army was killed in the ambush.
    The RPF and it’s armed wing paid it’s revolutionary salute to the fallen cadre and shares the sorrow of the bereaved family, the statement adds.
    Further, the statement emphasizes on the need for unification among the different insurgent groups based in the hills and the valley areas.
