Independent candidate enters Konthoujam Bye election fray

IMHAL, Jan 28: With the entry of an independent candidate the number of candidates for the February 14 Bye election to the vacant seat of KonthoujamConstituency has increased to three. On the last day of filling of nomination, Khangembam Ranjit of Khumbong an independent candidate today filed his nomination increasing the number of candidates on fray to the bye election to three.
A lecturer of DM college of Arts, Khagembam Ranjit today afternoon accompanied by well-wishers and supporters filed his nomination at the office chamber of Kunjabihari, SDO Patsoi located inside the DC Lamphelpat office complex.
Two candidates had already filed their nomination yesterday on the first day of filling of nomination. The Indian National Congress has placed Dr Sapam Ranjan s/o (L) Dr Budhichandra (former speaker Manipur Legislative Assembly) as its candidate while Trinamool Congress has sent Konthoujam Sarat Singh as its candidate.
Meanwhile it may be added that the Trinamool Congress candidate Konthoujam Sarat Singh will be supported by other non congress workers including the BJP, MPP and others.
The scrutiny of the nominations filed will be held on January 29 while the last date for withdrawal of nominations has been stated for January 31. The counting of votes for the bye election will be held on February 17.
