IMPHAL, Jan 27: The Manipur Peoples Party has shown the door to the partys sitting MLA Dr. I. Ibohalbi Singh, MLA of Oinam Assembly Constituency; the MLA is the third one to be expelled from the regional political party in the last two years.
A statement issued by the general secretary (org) of the MPP, Kh Ibomcha Singh, said that in pursuance of the party norms all members were notified and requested for completion of renewal membership on or before December 10, 2009. The circular was sent to all members on August 28, 2009 and October 5, 2009.
Despite repeated notification, Dr I Ibohalbi Singh, failed to renew his membership of the party for the years 2008, 2009 and 2010 continuously, thereby voluntarily giving up the membership of the party.
At the same time, in pursuance of the decision of the working committee meeting of the party held on August 14, 2009, Kh. Ibomcha general secretary in his letter dated September 25, 2009 addressed to Ibohalbi, clearly described his total negligence to the party since July 26, 2009 and requested him to extend his statutory co-operation to the party as a responsible senior leader, but there was no response at all from the MLA, it said.
It said that the working committee of the party, after due consideration on its meeting held on June 22, 2009 took a decision that in view of article-IV (8) read with Article-IV (5) of the constitution, Dr I Ibohalbi, is no more a member of the party as he is not interested to continue himself as a member of the party.
Following the resolution the president of MPP in his order states that the MLA has ceased to be a member of Manipur Peoples’ Party (MPP) on his own with immediate effect.
It may be mentioned that the party had earlier shown the door to former deputy speaker and Andro MLA Thounaujam Shyamkumar for failing to attend three consecutive executive meetings of the party despite calls from the party leadership.
He was soon followed by Dr Ng Bijoy Singh, sitting MLA of Khurai AC who was suspended as a disciplinary action.
It may be added that the party has only two sitting MLAs left in the 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly in the aftermath of the suspension and expellation of the three sitting MLAs from the party.
