Women body complains misuse of Seri funds

IMPHAL, Jan 28: The Government of Manipur has misused funds sanction by Japanese authority meant for development of sericulture projects in Manipur, alleged the Women Development-CUM-Marketing Association, an apex body of various sericulture units of the state handle by the women.
A press conference was held in this connection today at the sericulture complex, Sangaipat, Imphal.
Talking to media persons, L. Leima observed that the Japanese authority has lost their trust on the Government of Manipur. Citing irregularities in using funds has prompted the Japanese authority to cease its funding for the ongoing project and no funds has been received yet for the second phase of the project.
Moreover, the association had also warned earlier to lock down the complex at Sangaipat because of the failure of the Government to release the pending bills of the contractors, noted Leima.
She has further appealed the concerned authority to do the needful to continue the project flawlessly and has also expressed that if the said project is withdrawn many labourers will feel the pinch before adding that hundreds of peoples are earning there livelihood from the project.
On the other hand, the women’s’ body also oppose to the proposed UBI training centre inside the complex and has urged the Government not to mingle the existing project with any other scheme or programmes.
