Children home negates children abandoning home report

IMPHAL, Feb 16: There is no question of abandoning of three inmates of a children home run by the Leprosy Patients`™ Welfare Society (LEWS) located at Chingmeirong Lei-Inkhol recently due to alleged mistreatment by the secretary of the management committee of the institution.
Stating this, Ahanthem Tolen Meitei, secy. of the LEWS during a press conference held this morning at LEWS office, further clarified that, the existing institute had been providing accommodation to persons suffering from Leprosy and to orphans, etc.
He clarified that, there were no instances of mistreatment against any inmate of the institute by the authorities till today, besides the recent allegation made by the some persons with vested interest to the LEWS was very unfortunate and it would be treated as an act of attempt to tarnish the reputations and efforts of the institute, he added.
He further clarified that, all three inmates who had abandoned the home have returned back to the institution and it is clearly known from them that they have committed blunders by making false narrations to the media against the institutions.
In the meantime, all three children were paraded before the media during the press conference held this morning, and they have confessed that, they left the institution as they were desired to go to their homes and meet their parents, without any prior information of the very institution.
Regarding the charge leveled against the authority for collecting money from the inmates, the secy. of the institution further clarified, that, the institutions have its objective to open personal accounts for the inmates at Imphal Urban Cooperative Bank, for this purpose the authorities of the institution had collected some amount from the concern relatives of the and there is no question of misutilization of funds collected from the inmates.
He also expressed the grievances faced by the institution while providing for the children home with the limited funds that have been provided by the government, and has further appealed to the government to consider the hardship faced by the institute in running the home with limited resource.
