IMPHAL, Feb 5: The Council of Teachers’ Association while decrying the government’s act of keeping mum despite of more than 100 teachers being arrested during the ongoing fast unto death agitation of the association has further compared it to the act of a dictator.
The state government has so far arrested 116 teachers under judicial custody since the volunteers of the association started their fast unto death agitation.
It has further called the act of the government as an act of injustice towards the teachers who are only making demands which are even prescribed by the central government. The association has further stated that no past government has ever acted in such a way as the present government.
It has also maintained that it is not the concern of the agitating teachers but for the whole state that the state has at many time deviated from issues related to the general welfare of the public and demands made by the public.
Meanwhile considering the failure of the state government to acknowledged the just demands of the teachers even with the various forms of agitation launched by the teachers, a joint meeting of teachers of all five hill districts of the state was convened today at the Johnstone Higher Secondary School. The meeting further resolved to cooperate with the present agitation of the COTA until the demands are fulfill by the state government.
The teachers have been demanding the in toto implementation of the 6th Central revised pay scale for the government teachers of the state.
