Family members of jailed teachers demand unconditional release

IMPHAL, Feb 6: Family members of the 123 arrested and jailed teachers who have been lodge in jails for staging fast unto death spearheaded by the Council of Teachers’ Association (COTA) demanded the unconditional release and implementation of the 6th revised pay in toto within February 10 failing which, they have warned to stage a mass arrest protest in front the Sajiwa Jail.
A press conference was organized by the family members of the arrested teachers in this connection at the campus of the Johnstone Higher Secondary School.
While speaking during the conference various speakers while highlighting the disturbed minds of the family members said that teachers who have been arrested had committed their lives for shaping the future of the state. They also condemned the act of the Government who inspite of respecting the teachers for their hard work and sincerity have sent them to Jail.
Endorsing the teachers the families termed the demand as genuine and further decried the treatment given to the visitors (family members) at the Jail. The family members have further appealed to all concerned authority to bring an amicable solution to the prolonged impasse in the interest of the public.
